Commissioners open bids for new roof, RV dump
ALBANY — Tuesday was a busy bid opening day for Linn County Commissioners Roger Nyquist, Sherrie Sprenger and Will Tucker.
The commissioners accepted bids for the 7th Avenue Medical Building roofing project and construction of an RV dump for the Parks Department in Sweet Home. Each project attracted eight bidders.
Staff will now evaluate the bids to determine if they met all qualifying criteria and will return to make a recommendation of bid award to the commissioners at the August 27 meeting.
Bids for the 7th Avenue Medical Building roofing project were: Roof Toppers, Vancouver, Wash., $244,685; Axiom Roofing, Portland, $267,696; Umpqua Roofing Company, Eugene, $272,700; McDonald and Wetle, Portland, $279,000; Evergreen Roofing of Oregon, Eugene, $295,818; ABC Roofing, Portland, $398,402; Green Pointe Design & Construction, Beaver Creek, $461,198.25; West Coast Roofing & Building, Salem, $523,850.
Bids accepted for the Parks & Recreation Department’s RV dump in Sweet Home were: Knife River, Tangent, $690,791; JBX, Crawfordsville, $695,662; Wildish Construction, Eugene, $722,000; North Santiam Paving, Stayton, $798,300; Riverbend Construction, Eugene, $817,000; Pacific Excavation, Eugene, $942,000; Conway Construction, Vancouver, Wash., $958,660; Jesse Rodriguez Construction, Silverton, $1,292,425.
In other business, the commissioners:
- Learned there were 90 deaths and 71 births in July — 34 girls and 37 boys. Of the 90 deaths, 41 were female and 49 were male. Dr. Adam Brady said tobacco use was a contributing factor in 18 of the deaths, alcohol in five deaths, diabetes in 14 deaths and drugs in one death. There were three suicides in July, the persons ranging in age from 17 to 59. There were three new cases on HIV.
- Approved releasing a lien on a piece of property that had been used as collateral for a Council of Governments loan in 1997. The loan has long since been repaid, but paperwork was lost and the owners now would like to sell the property. Treasurer Michelle Hawkins said she has worked with COG and the County Clerk’s staff to rectify the issue.
- Appointed Treasurer Michelle Hawkins as the County Budget Officer and incoming Assessor Matt Pitcher as the County Tax Collector.
- Appointed Don Wirth to the Noxious Weed Control Advisory Committee.
- Approved code text amendments to update and clarify road construction and access standards and to align some standards with the Oregon Fire Code.
- In a public hearing, approved a zoning map amendment on 4.38-acres at 4975 Santiam Highway, within the Albany Urban Growth Area. Commissioners approved amending the designation from Urban Growth Area-Urban Growth Management to Urban Growth Area-Limited Industrial. This will allow owner Ron Brockman to develop an RV storage business on the property that will not need city water or sewer services. In the future, if the city extends such services into the area, Brockman could then connect to those services and possibly change the type of business sited there.
